Public Transport

General Info

Public transport services are provided by BVG with underground trains, trams and buses, - and by the S-Bahn Berlin, ie urban trains. Both companies are coorperating and offering single fair valid in so called "Zones" A, B and C.

Note: The S-Bahn Berlin has currently problems to provide regular service, due to trains in mass inspections. Please check the transit map before you Travel to Berlin, some part of the lines may be not in service.

Transit map

Transit network map

  • Zone A is the part within the circle line, including the circle line.
  • Zone B is the part between Berlin within city limits except for Zone A.
  • Zone C is around Berlin (ca 15km), including Oranienburg and Potsdam.

Destination/Exhibition

The Messe Berlin / LinuxTag exhibion is at the urban rail station S Messe Süd:, lines S3 and S75.

By bus, it's the bus stop "Jafféstraße", line 349 between

Directions from East/West

When coming from the east, e.g. from "S&U Alexanderplatz" or "S&U Berlin Hauptbahnhof", take one of these lines going West in direction of "S&U Rathaus Spandau", this should be the lines S3 or S75.

When coming from the West (eg Spandau) then you must go east towards the city using lines S3 or S75.

When the "S-Bahn Ring" (circle line) is easy to reach for you, you can take the urban trains S41 (clockwise) and S42 (counter-clockwise) to the station "Westkreuz", then chage to S3 or S75 to "Rathaus Spandau" for one station.

Charge

When coming from within tariff zones A or B then simply buy a ticket for zones A+B.

When you come from zone C (eg from Potsdam), then the best choice is a ticket for "ABC".

  • When your hotel is very near to the fairgrounds then a short trip ticket ("Kurzstrecke") might suffice. This ticket costs 1.30€ and allows you to go for six hops. A hop by bus or tram is a single hop, however, a hop by underground or urban trains account for two hops each.
  • A single ticket ("Einzelfahrausweis") costs 2.10€ and is valid for two hours - but only for one direction! You must not go back to the beginning. A day ticket, however, allows going on all directions for a whole day. So maybe want to consider this.
  • A day ticket is available for 6.10€ and is valid for the whole day and until 3 a.m. of the next day. The day ticket is worth it when you want to travel to the LinuxTag and may want to explore the city or attend the LinuxNight also.
  • Three day ticket: ...
  • Week pass: When you are here for four days then a three day ticket will not suffice - and an extra day ticket exceeds the cost for a week pass. So you might as well buy a week pass - and give it to someone just before you leave at the airport or station.

Summary

Price Name Validity
1.30€ Single Ticket for six stops
2.10€ Single Ticket for two hours
6.10€ Single Day Ticket for a day
~ 20€ Three Day Ticket three days
~ 25€ Week Pass seven days
