Map
Location of the Messe Berlin, LinuxTag exhibition ground:
By Car
Take the A100 or A115 autobahn to the Berlin fairgrounds (follow signs to "Messe Berlin"). LinuxTag is at the south edge of the fairgrounds, and the huge parking area is at the street corner "Messedamm"/"Jafféstraße".
Exhibitors enter the fairgrounds at Gate 25 (Jafféstraße) with prior permission.
By Train
Take national trains to Spandau or Hauptbahnhof. Take local rail (S-Bahn) line S3 or S75 to Messe Süd.
From Südkreuz station, take S41 to Westkreuz, then change to S3 or S75 to Messe Süd.
By Air
From Schönefeld airport, take S9 to Ostkreuz and change to S3 or S75 to Messe Süd. Don't be afraid if the Ostkreuz station looks like some old Eastern European train station from Half Life 2: there are surveillance cameras but no combines.
From Tegel airport, take the X9 bus to Jungfernheide, then S42 to Westkreuz, then S3 or S75 to Messe Süd.
Local Public Transport
Public transport services include underground trains, trams and buses operated by BVG, and local trains operated by the Berlin S-Bahn. The two companies accept the same tickets, and use the same concentric fare zones, A, B and C.
Note: For reasons too complicated and political to be mentioned here, the Berlin S-Bahn currently provides irregular service. Please check the website for current information.
Transit map
Zone A: Central Berlin up to and including the S-Bahn ring line
Zone B: Outside the S-Bahn ring line to the city limits
Zone C: Berlin environs (about 15 km from the city limits), including the city of Potsdam and Schönefeld airport
Exhibition station
LinuxTag is at Messe Berlin, near the S-Bahn station Messe Süd, served by lines S3 and S75. The nearest bus stop is Jafféstraße, served by bus line 349.
ICE trains coming from the East or West stop at the stations Hauptbahnhof, Ostkreuz, and Spandau. From there, take S-Bahn line S3 or S75.
If you arrive at Südkreuz station, or if you are near any other station on the S-Bahn ring line (line S41 or S42), take the ring to Westkreuz station, then change to S3 or S75 in the direction of Spandau, and get off at the first station.
Fares
There are no tickets for a single fare zone. If you are within the zone A or B, you need a ticket for A+B.
If you are in fare zone C, you need a ticket for A+B+C.
If you are going to ride more than twice in one day, get a day pass. If you want to stay for the entire fair and also see the city, get a five-day or seven-day pass.
Some gotchas: Bicycles require a supplementary ticket. Schönefeld airport is in zone C.
