Public Transport
Public transport services are provided by BVG with underground trains, trams and buses, and by the S-Bahn Berlin, the urban trains. Both companies are coorperating and offering single fair valid in the so called "zones" A, B and C.
Note: The S-Bahn Berlin has currently problems to provide the regular service, due to DDoS caused by trains of mass inspections. Please check the transit map before you travel to Berlin, some part of lines may be not in service.
Transit map
Zone A: Berlin's inner city up to and including the S-Bahn ring (circleline)
Zone B: outside the S-Bahn ring up (circleline) to the city boundary
Zone C: Greater Berlin (area approx. 15 km around Land Berlin), including the City of Potsdam and airport Schönefeld
Exhibition station
The Messe Berlin / LinuxTag exhibition is at the urban rail station S Messe Süd, lines S3 and S75. By bus, it's the bus stop Jafféstraße, line 349.
When coming from the east or west, take the line S3 or S75 (including ICE-stations Hauptbahnhof, Ostkreuz, Spandau).
When the S-Bahn Ring (S41/S42) is easy to reach for you, you can take this Matrix3-style loop line to the station "Westkreuz", then chage to S3 or S75 to "Spandau" for one station (including ICE-station Südkreuz).
If you arrive to the airport Schönefeld, take S9 to "Ostkreuz" and change to S3 or S75 to "Spandau". Don't be afraid if the Ostkreuz station looks like some old east european train station from Half Life 2, there are surveillance cameras but no combines.
Charge
If you are coming from within the tariff zones A or B, then buy a ticket for A+B.
If you are coming from within the tariff zones C, then buy a ticket for A+B+C.
If you rtfm'd and know what you are doing, buy B+C.
Warning of well known tourist traps: 1) Bicycle needs an extra ticket, 2) the airport Schönefeld is in the zone C.
If you are new in Berlin and want to stay during the entire fair & also visit the city, one of the 5-7 days pass are recommended. These passes are handy like Debian, you install it and forget until the support has expired.
